I was very fortunate to find out that Hermeto Pascoal was conducting a workshop in San Francisco this mondsy. Hermeto is one of the greatest living figures of contemporary music, on the same level as Thelonius Monk or Miles Davis, yet he gets very little recognition because his style is so different and personal. Also, he speaks no english.

I am going to see him perform at an Oakland Jazz club today and wednesday, and I recommend that any of you do the same if he's in your neck of the woods.

Here's a bit more info on "The Wizard"
