I bought an aria bass and i don't like the 3 tone sunburst too much, that's why i have been thinking in converting it to a natural finnished bass.

Will you find one like this? As far as I knew alder basses always had finishes because of their "boring" grain and appearance. Could be wrong of course.

    ehmmmm......

(And i thought that the sunburst was boring....(too dark for me)) :D

  4. But here's a sunburst alder bass that's been stripped to natural, from the BassPalace site.

  8. Mmm.... looks nice. Funny, I was told that Alder didn't look that nice natural. I've been thinking about refinishing my MIM and leave it natural, pretty much abandoned it because of that comment. What kind is that, MIM, MIJ, MIA?

not bad at all..... i think i like that jazz. anyway i still don't know if i want to take the paint off..... (keep posting pictures):D

(should i make a poll?, but wait, i dont know how to make it!! )

  10. That particular one is a '59 P-bass, so it's obvioulsy MIA. Alder tends to have not much grain, but it can still look nice in natural, I think.

i had Ty at Roxy Guitar Finish paint my 5 string jazz alder body in a two tone sunburst. needless to say, i wasnt particularly pleased, cause the middle yellow hue came out waay too dark. its since grown on me, but for some reason Alder is a pain to do a good sunburst on. :(

i'm not really a fan of natural alder. why not send it out to Ty at Roxy, and have him do an opaque like candy apple red or sherwood green or somethin'. now that would really rock!

Alder often has an olive tint to it and typically doesn't have an interesting grain. Unfortunately you don't really know what it's going to look like until you strip it. You may want to consider purchasing a colored tint from StewartMac and using a satin or Polymerized tung oil finish.

That does look nice. Classy. I've made a shelf out of black alder (Alnus Glutinosa) that looks very similar to the wood on your bass.
