you guys know some history on my new
friend thanks for the help n keep on

  2. The Yamaha RBX series is their "entry level" series, IIRC. Yammers are sweet basses, and highly under rated. I checked MusiciansFriend.com and their 4 string RBX (I'm assuming it's a four) range from $129 (RBX 264) up to $499 (RBX 760)

It seems that the higher the number, the more expensive they are. I could be wrong, but my guess is that a RBX 550 would be somewhere in the $300 price range.

I've got a Yamaha BBG5A and I love it. Very good basses for a very reasonable price.

Edit: I just found some more RBX series basses, and I don't think the numbers have anything to do with price now... Yamaha is very confusing.

Have you checked it out on Yamaha.com?
  3. Ok, after a quick jump over to Yamaha dot com, they do not have the RBX 550 listed. They may have discontinued that style.

Can you describe it or post a picture?

The RBX550 is kinda' similar to the current RBX270 or
    RBX170 (Agathis body)...two cutaways, passive P+J pups,
    3 controls (V-V-T ?). The headstocks differ (4-in-line vs 2+2).

The `550's cutaways are a bit more sculpted, while the `270's
have rounded edges throughout and the "E.D." lower bout :p.

    EDIT: The 550 has 22 frets, the 270/170 - 24.

    A short review at activebass.com -- http://www.activebass.com/resources/revmain.asp?i=1992

edit: found a better `550 pic.
