With the weather change, my acoustic and my rickenfaker are fretting out badly. A friend suggested I loosen the truss rod and put dowels(clave and slide) under the strings at the neck joint and get a room humidifier and let them sit for a few days. So I am giving this a shot. Anyone else do this?

Why? Adjust the truss rod and be done with it.

Both were still fretting out with rods completely loose.

The dry weather caused a definite back bow.

Unusual. Dry weather usually causes an up bow.
