I'm looking for a 4 ohm 15 inch cabinet thats not to hard to handle,I know thats relative but I already have a Boogie 4-10 deisel, what a tank but it sounds great.I'll be using it mostly as a monitor at church but I want a 15 to use with my 4-10 once in a while.I'll be driving it with a Nemisis NA600,any suggestions would be appriciated.
The Avatar CB115 is smallish (25.5 by 17.75 by 16.5 IIRC) and is available in 4 ohms. See them at www.avatarspeakers.com. Bargain priced too...
I thought about that originaly but after the last avatar disastisfied post I'm not sure.I want a good sound even as a stand alone.Maybe a bag end?The avatar is about the right width for my nemisis but I'm so confused.
I own a CB115 avatar and you can stand it upright and stick your amp on it and it fits perfectly, or if you want to stikc a 410/2x10 you can flip the cab on it's side and it fits PERFECTLY on top... that's what I do...
That'd be me. I hope you read the whole thread before leaping to any conclusions. I had a combination of 1) unrealistic expectactions, 2) an underpowered amp, and 3) an existing homebuilt cabinet that was, for what it is, a whole lot better than I had realized. My complaints with the mids on the B115H are really comparitive to my homebuilt cab, and my expectations. Depending on the tone you're after you may not even care. I need to run a bit more eq on the B115 as a standalone cab. The CB112 actually has better LF specs than the CB115 - at the expense of about 3db of efficiency. The Kappa Pro 15LF claims a top end of 4khz - bgavin was quoting specs for the Kappa 15LF, not the Pro.
You're going to find the pickings kind of slim for 4ohm 1x15 cabs. Bag End doesn't make one, but off hand I can think of two companies that do...Peavey and Ampeg.
your right about that.Maybe I'll rethink it and get an 8 ohm cab but peavey and ampeg both weigh a ton.I wanted a 4 ohm so I could run my amp at 2 ohms @ 600 watt once in a while>
then you should probably get a 4 ohm... I was under the impression your amps minimum load WAS 4 ohms... Can your amp take 2 ohms>???
according to nemisis it's stable down to 2 ohms but looking at the back of my boogie cabinet it might be an 8 ohm cabinet. How can I check that?
IMO, at least part of the reason is that he was underpowering the cab. How much power does your Nemesis put out?
Avatar and Carvin both make 4 ohm 115 cabs. I dunno about the Avatar, but I used to have Carvin's 118 in a 4 ohm model, and it was pretty light, I thought.
And if you would take into consideration of Carvin's 18, there is one for sale used(if you buy used gear) for $100 never giged, has to downsize his rig. Here Hope I helped peace -Ben
The nemisis puts out 600 watts @ 2 ohms. From some of the other posts I gather the avatar isn't too efficient either.Like I said before I'm still confused.
Thats not too bad then. The other fella was putting about 160w into it, I believe. So if your 600w were divided equaly into the two cabs, that would be 300w a piece which should be decent. The sensativity seems to be in line with Ampeg cabs... I dunno about the others.
I have an Ampeg SVT15E cab that I am using with an Avatar 210B cab and an SVT 350H head. They are both 8 ohm cabs and the 15 sounds great. HUGE low end from this little cab, and not very large or heavy either. Then can be found on eBay for around $200 used, which is what I paid for mine. See pic:
I hope ampegs 15 sounds better than there 4-10 cabs I sure wasn't impressed by them and at the time I wasn't looking for a 1-15 cab.The only ampeg I liked was the 8-10 and I complain about the weight of the boogie!
