In the early '80's I bought a "1966" jazz bass. I still have it and have changed almost nothing. I will be taking it apart to check dates but for instance I have seen a few bridges from that time period the threaded kind and this kind are they both correct? Thanks all.

It's hard to tell. Fender hasn't changed much in their bridges... My '66 has a threaded bridge:
    b4d7a74e.

But that is a lollipop/dots/binding bass, I don't know about yours? Maybe they installed the "regular" bridges along with the block inlays in late '66.

I thought the threaded saddle bridges were around til ~'69 or so.

That bridge would be from ~ 72 or so on IIRC, it has a shorter intonation screw on the G.

Possibly a previous owner didn't like the threaded saddled type?

In that case I think it's a replacement bridge :)

Beautiful bass BTW, great color as well!

The single slot bridge started showing up for '69.

If I wanted to date a Vintage Jazz I'd ask to be formally introduced by a friend - then politely complement in an innocent way... then see how the evening took us.

    I'll get my coat.

damn wonder why he changed it.? And thanks she is a cool bass. I just don't play her much anymore.

  10. Some people didn't like the threaded saddles because the strings would sometimes move around on the barrels. I have them on both my Fender reissues and I'm fine with them. Another possibility is that the original bridge adjustment screws and barrels were badly corroded and instead of replacing them he just switched the bridge. Beautiful bass by the way.

Thanks. When I first started building I used to use the threaded bridges. I like them.

I took the control cover off and as you can see the soldering covers some of the markings but theNeck control was readable it has 032367 304-6612 I assume the 6612 is the date code?

Yes. That would mean the pot is from the 12th week of 1966.

2 photos of the bridge pup. I assume these are correct? Do the windings look right?

    I don't WANT to date a 1966 Jazz- because I
    Married a 1975 Filipina! :)

Edit: entered the year wrong- dang Eyephone!
