Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by iamthemusicman, Oct 1, 2002.

  1. i have a 200 watt swr workmans head in a 3 space rack so i was wondering what would be my best bet to put in that extra space? and keep in mind im the same person that wanted a 400 rig so im by no means rich. but if u could also include some specs with what i should get for instance if u say a power conditioner what i should look for in a power conditioner thank ya much

I've found a compressor to be a valuable tool in my rack. If you're interested, I have a spare Nady compressor I'd let go cheap...

A power conditioner would be a good choice, too - but a small rack like yours would probably be better off with a small power strip instead.

I have a DBX 166XL compressor/limiter/gate in my rack. It's a VERY useful tool for any rig. It's a stereo capable unit, so you can use one side for your rig & use the other side for your PA or let a guitar player run it through his effects loop. When my band plays live, the drummer uses one channel of the unit to gate & compress his kick drum signal while I use the other channel for my bass signal. Very versatile!

stuff that doesn't do anything. Just makes your rack look cool.
  8. Rags soaked in oil and gasoline. No no no...not really.

All other posts have been great. Here's my preference

Funk logic (I'm gettin a bigger rack so I'll have space for a palindrometer, it's good for a chuckle :D Plus, Fills With Glee, Spaces of Three

    Power conditioner.

Any of these are a worthwhile addition. Perhaps just a 1U space blank panel if you don't really need any of the other things?

So, what does a compressor do, exactly?
