  1. So i have a Music Man Stingray 5. It's an excellent bass and very personal to me because my friend gave it to me. Unfortunately its a single humbucker model and for me, I am someone who loves to have options. I want to ask you at TB if I should route out of the body and make a cavity to install another pickup. Worth the trouble? Im not going to sell it but I want to know if it'll be worth it. Thanks.

It can be. I say if you do get this done, pay either a luthier or someone who works with wood well.

  3. I honestly wouldn't. To have it done right would cost a bunch, plus you'd need to buy the new pup. If the bass is sentimentally significant, I'd park it and save my pennies for an HH.

    do you like the tone?

if you do keep it as it is and just have another more versatial bass. i'm assuming the stingray isn't your only bass?

If you don't want to butcher it, try some pedals for more options

Don't do it. Getting it done properly will be expensive -- labor plus two pickups (you want them to match). For not much more you could pick up a second bass

If you're not married to it you can sell/trade it and get a more versatile bass of similar quality.

Why not just get an HH Stingray 5? It's not as if they don't make them, and pickup installations are much more expensive there's lots of routing required.

Do you find yourself often in situations where your single humbucker is inadequate? Or do you just want one because you want one?

  9. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but if that is the case I think you would be biting off more than you need to with the project.
