It'll be ready in 6 months. It's going to look EXACTLY like this one, but mine will green programmable LED's and a white fret board.
So you're going to change your name to "SeiNut" now!!?? I think Martin Peterson's basses are great - I've played a few in the Gallery and they all seem to be excellent - I did talk to him about getting a custom made - but I just don't know what to ask for! I can tell a bass suit me by playing it and have definite ideas about the sound I like - but find it very difficult to describe that to someone else! What did you ask for - what was the most important thing for you?
Congratulations on the bass! Hey, isn't Martin one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet in a music store? I don't live in London, although I visit there 2 or 3 times a year. I always try and visit the Gallery, because they've got the most amazing range of instruments, and also because Martin's a legend!
Took the words right out of my mouth, O-man So, Woodchuck, what's the procedure in ordering a Sei? Do they have a US presence or is it direct and then some fees on top of their prices?
i think you've overtaken nino as the biggest bass wh0re on the board! bass looks sweet though! what are "programmable" LED's? jason
Martin was VERY cool. The most important thing to me is the representation in the mids dept. I live in the midrange. Programmable LED's can be made to flash, just stay lit, or flash according to your playing. Brad, It'll be direct. I talked to Martin, and told him what I liked, and disliked. He listened to what I wanted and also made recommendations. He recommended the 18 volt Aguilar 2 band systems with an active/passive switch. As for price, he's charging me a flat price, plus shipping. I still came out 870.00 cheaper than what I was going to get. I just wanted a high powered jazz type bass. The Aries is still loved! I'm going with a lot of custom basses for this upcoming tour, which won't happen, BTW, until this this summer.
Keep in mind, the 6 months is the average wait, because it's just him and one other guy. He likes it that way, because he's reknowned for his customer service, and he wants to keep it that way, by keeping his company small and getting to know his players and their basses.
Brad, if you do, please get a fretless from him. I sat in Martin's shop and played all the Sei basses he had, 3 fretted and 2 fretless. The fretted were very nice, no doubt, but they were nothing spectacular. The fretlesses however - Sweetest MWWAAAAAAHHHHHHH I ever heard on one. It wasn't a jazz type like WN is getting, but it had Barts in it, OBP-1 preamp, ash body and ebony board. It was the headed version, strung with(I was told) nickel Lo-Riders. Price tag was £1450, about the same as a new Czech Spector. I was in love, but I'm not quite ready for fretless yet, and I don't have the cash. All I can recommend is the fretlesses.
Did you consider buying the white one? I think they still have it for sale. I've played a few Jazz models and the frettless 5 had mwah like nothing else. Are you going to have the back of the neck white, or leave it unfinished? I think I will aim for a fretted 5 Sei jazz with the J retro, ebony board, flame maple with sunburst (or sapwood facing) and 24 frets. Or maybe a Shuker... Who knows. Matt
