Let me start by saying this was the first real Conklin I've had the chance to play. Let me also say that I hate 7 string basses. This guy comes into the store today with a casse that says Conklin on it I figured it was a Groove Tools. i asked him and he pulls out the real thing (the bass, not his penis). I've played several 7 string basses before, many very expensive ones by big name companies and have hated them all. They all sounded very thin and too guitar like. The Conklin was very huge sounding. I don't know how he did it but it had the depth and roundness that you usually hear in a 5. It approached having the same sound as a 4 string, truly a rare thing. I still don't like 7 string basses, the high F still sounds too guitar like but I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Conklin 5 or 6. Construction was excellent, playability was great and the tone was superb.
