So today I took a trip to Sam Ash to see if they had any new basses and I was immediately drawn to the Adam Clayton signature. Some things to note about this bass: The finish looks soooo much better in person. I know that saying gets thrown around a lot but it is completely true for this sexy bass, it really looks great. It is a U.S made Fender and the setup and build quality is scary good. I actually believe that it feels nicer than the American Deluxe basses. The fit and finish on this bass is completely flawless, the neck is perfect and smooth and the neck joints near the body are so solid that it makes this bass feel like it was 100% hand made. it seriously felt like I was holding a custom shop Fender I kid you not. The setup on the bass was perfect as well. the low string action combined with the smooth neck combined with the amazing build quality and sexy finish make this one of the best Fenders I have ever played. Its expensive, about 1,700 but it is worth it IMO Just wanted to share my experience with you guys
I too, checked out the AC bass..It stands out right away, and looks great....I was very impressed by the setup of the bass,..flawless..It was a pleasure to play...Like the OP,I picked up a jazz deluxe directly after the AC,and it did pale a little bit in comparison (and thats coming from me,who owns a jazz deluxe),although the AC was set up more to my liking. Regardless of the sig on the bass,it is indeed a fine instrument, although very pricey..IMO.
That is a very beautiful bass! Hopefully I can try one someday as well. The only strange thing is, when's the last time Adam played Fenders?
im sure its a nice bass amnd all, but the whole fender "signature" concept has kinda ruined what a signature instrument should be all about, its only about sales and commercial
The AC suppose to have difference pickups, how they can compared against the Standard MIA and its custom shop pops?
Thanks for your post! I really like the look online and wondered if it would be as nice in person, not to mention (more importantly) how it feels. Damn GAS making my insides hurt!
Nice review! The AC Jazz is one of the few Fender basses that I'd have any interest in. If it was priced about half of what it is, I'd probably go grab one right away.
The one I played at GC needed too much work bright out of the box for me to give it a fair review. The neck needed more than just a little tweaking. The fret job was poor and the pickup height was off.
Im sorry to hear that. We all know that a bass's setup makes all the difference in the world. Another thing I wanted to say is that even if it was not a signature bass, I would still say the same things about it. Its a great sounding, custom shop like bass, signature or not and I would have bought it if I had the money
Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the brainiac's at Fender would sell a ton more basses if they just released the 'Signature' and 'Custom Shop' colours on US Standard and US Deluxe Jazzes?
Good to hear - They do seem to be churning out some nice instruments again at Fender at the moment. Have to admit to quite liking the AC signature myself. I think it's the lollipop tuners! My Classic Player Rascal arrived today and it's utterly perfect, although mine was the very bass which Thomann used in the pictures on their website for the Rascal model - They sent me a little card with a proof picture saying that everyone who looked at the Rascal on the Thomann website had been looking at my bass! Never had that before.
GC website lists them at $1,799. Looks to be a nice bass, there seem to be none in the Phoenix metro area to try out though. Sweetwater and Sam Ash also have the same price listed, but none in stock at S.Ash either.
