Hey. I have no clue how to pick out cabs or heads... I don't know what to look for, anything like that, and I want to know if a head can support 2 cabs. Please just shower me with information because right now I am clueless.
We have Joris to thank for this chunk of knowledge. Follow this link, and read his FAQ and you will find the answers you seek, my son. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=24546&highlight=faq Chris
What I'd suggest is that you work out your budget, where you're gonna be playing and how portable you need your amps to be! Once done go to a music store and see what they have, you might be able to talk to one of the sales staff who may be able to advise you on some amps within your budget. Try otu the amps and see what ones you like /don't like. Don't be afraid to take your bass with you to try out - the amp needs to sound good with your bass! I didn't notice your location from your profile but there are other Talkbassers who work in music stores - maybe they can lend some more advice! As to your question of 'can a head support 2 cabs' the answer is some can (most probably!), this allows you to select cabs with different speaker sizes to get the sound you want. Also, some combos have a speaker output which will let you drive another cab. Happy hunting!
Yup. But that's only a technical description. If you're inquiring about what brand to get, it all depends. On you. The only way to decide what cab and head to buy is: try all you can get your hands on. If you post what type of sound you're after, the more experienced members could point you to certain derections. For instance, if you want a fat, saturated warm rock sound, 8 out of 10 people will tell you to get Ampeg or SWR.
Here's all you need to know. There are only two combos: Eden Metro and SWR Super Redhead. Either one will support an extension cab. If you buy any other combo, you may be happy with it, but not nearly as happy as you would be with one of the above. Ignore all other responses.
Make your decisions with your ears. In the end that is all that matters, which combination of amp/cabs that sounds the best to YOU and fits your playing style.
Actually, that's a sentence from the famous motion picture "Wayne's World". You're only a few years younger than I am, and it surprises me you don't know it.
