...when I start the computer it doesn't automatically start windows. I have to select one of two "Windows XP" selections. One starts windows and the other does not.

How do I vet my computer to start automatically?

  2. Look like when you reinstalled, some of the original installation was left behind (or it reinstalled over the original) and now your system thinks you have a duel boot operating system.

You will have to do a reformat before reinstalling, again.

    My best guess.

  3. I'll second this.

There is a way to delete one of the entries which would solve the problem, but A) you run the risk of deleting the full OS, and B) the knowledge that there was leftover crap on my drive would drive me crazy and I'd have to fully reformat.

easier and safer to format / reinstal than edit the boot.ini

If you're feeling froggy the instructions for the edit are all over google.
You're at a new starting point anyway. No harm in pooching anything.

Start => run => type in the box "msconfig" (without quotes) and hit enter. Go to the Boot tab. Delete the incorrect one. Hit Apply, OK, reboot, and be happy.

  7. How to know which is which though?

  8. Format. Visit Apple store and purchase SnowLeopard, install.

    NOW be happy... :)

    Eh?
While this is a good suggestion, it is pretty misleading.

You don't purchase a performance upgrade alone, and you don't install Leopard on whatever PC is in your house. ;)

See where it says "Current OS"? That particular OS is the currently running OS. Just remove the one that doesn't have that.
