I've been wanting a Fender American Vintage '62 Reissue for a while, now. But I could never find one locally in any of the music stores. Whether it be a mom and pop store or big chain store. They never seemed to have one when I went. Well, I saw one Sweetwater's site and I was drooling, yesterday. A beautiful Three Tone Sunburst. Just 8 lbs and 5 oz. Nice alder grain. I stared at it all day, yesterday. I asked a question about the '62 here, yesterday. And today, I couldn't handle it anymore She's on her way to me. Guitar Gallery | Sweetwater.com So what advice or tips do you Fender Vintage gurus have for me, regarding these AV62RI P-basses?
I think I'm gonna order one of those too. I haven not had any luck finding one locally. Congrats. As far as advice, just play the hell out of it.
The necks are wider from side to side and wider at the nut, but IMO they play nice. Congrats! I love mine.
Wowee wow wow! Are those knobs and tuning pegs a smoke color? The bass looks beautiful! Hope it plays well & sounds good.
No, I think all the hardware is chrome/nickel. I think it's just the lighting that makes it look darker. I will change the knobs and maybe the pickguard screws to a finish/color I prefer. But that's probably it. I'd love to put black tuners on this, but I'm afraid that might affect the overall tone. Don't know it it would, but who knows. Yeah, that's gthe risk of buying on-line. I don't know how it's going to feel, play and sound. But Sweetwater are really good about this stuff. If this bass it a clunker in terms of playability, tone/sound and feel. I have no doubt they'll want to make things right.
congrats.....I bought a used one (1997) about 3 years ago, quickly became my main bass....I would recommend LaBella flats for that old-school tone.
I have an AVRI 62 Stratocaster. IMO the AVRI series are among Fender's very best. The build quality is substantially better than American Standard.
FEDEX tracking shows it's out for delivery Coooooooooooool That means I could bring it to rehersal, tonight.
I bought two for this reason... played them both for a few days to see which one played and sounded better then sent one of them back. Both played about the same with the stock set up but but sounded a bit different. One had more low end thud to it and the other one had more top end growl to it. It was hard to say if one was 'better' than the other and I was a bit conflicted on the choice but I ended up keeping the growler one. -Mark
