What do you guys think? I don't think it came from the factory this way. Fender Precision Bass Modified Natural Finish
Just needs a bit of TLC. If those were Jazz pickups I'd up for it, well that and the fact that I prefer alder to ash. And it would need a complete re-fill and re-route to get the pickups sitting right. Then it would need re=wiring (probably) and a paint job to hide all the re-routing. But apart from that, it looks a viable project ... : )
Currently over $500 and over 4 days left. I like it well enough. Hard to tell if the neck is bowed or just needs adjustment. Probably just needs adjustment. Goodwill auction stuff never seems to squeak by as a killer deal though.
It did! Leo built it in his secret lab in 1959. This exact pickup position is THE Holy Grail of electric bass sound.
There always seems to be someone willing to bid higher than common sense would dictate for junk on there, with no idea about neck condition etc.
I usually have a soft spot of super modded basses but this is just trash. Are the pickups epoxied into the body? This is just sad. Like if you wanted a jazz bass, why didn't you trade it in for a jazz bass?
That's why I posted it. It's one of the worst hack jobs I've ever seen. That and I'm dumbfounded how people are willing to bid 500 plus samoliens for it.
