I find myself saying that more and more. I want to do another Warmoth build, but this time around do a 5 string. You see a lot of 5 string jazz basses, so originally I wanted to do a 5 string telecaster bass with a humbucker, kinda vintage looking with a modern twist. Then I wanted to do a 5 string split coil precision. Even though Warmoth offers a 5 string precision body, they do not route for a 5 string precision pickup (yet according to Warmoth). Then today I looked at a Jaguar. It took me awhile to like the looks of these, but they are growing on me, and I got to thinking how cool a 5 string jaguar would be. Nobody offers a project body to those specs, although I probably (with some time, skill, and patience) make it one way or another. I want to get into building, but until I can get the experience under my belt Im doing put-togethers. My aspects are bigger than what I am able to do at the moment. Thought Id rant, Im sure someone has an opinion or similar feelings. -Gord_oh PS- a 5 string jaguar would be so cool!
omg dude!!!! i was thinking the exact same thing! im a 5 string bassist and was looking at a fender jaguar and though "i want this in a 5!" lol
If I got in my head to order a Warmoth body for a 5-string P, I'd get sent without routes, then take it to my local guitar tech (In San Diego, I like "The Repair Zone") and let him deal with it.
{} You can do what I do ... I put 5 strings on 4 string necks ... or take a 4 string body and simply enlarge the neck pocket.
i thought about that, kinda mentioned it in the OP. that figured top is beautiful! damn Ric5 you have some nice project basses. you always seem to have something cool up your sleeve to add to a thread. i wasnt thinking of something so "classy". the standard jag layout but in a 5. although you have made me a believer.
Reading my mind, dude!!! So many cool basses out at good prices that I would be drooling over if they came in a 5!!
YMMV, but I'm not interested in a five string made by cramming five strings onto a four string bass. I got a mail order "5 string" Tacoma Thunderchief that was made that way and I hated it; I sent it back.
thought about that too. the price id put into building that one though i could buy a fender p5. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=660152&highlight= i ranted about that before too.
hahaha look what a google search found: http://www.3dentourage.com/425/5jaguar.htm thought id advertise for you Ric5. it has a nice tone, i dig it.
+1. at that price im thinking MIM (doubt squier). but id be all over something like that. i was hoping once the MIA P5 came out that a MIM would soon follow.
Ovation Magnum. At some point I want to get someone to make me 5-string versions all my favourite basses that were only ever made in 4-string versions. The Magnum is at the top of the list.
The $500 p bass (close) is the new MTD crb 5. I have yet to see one, but I would really like to check one out.
Only squier I've played that had a decent B was a Deluxe Jazz, once. So yeah I'm kinda hoping for the MIM one. Hell mim 5er jazz is badass as it is, just need to get the p body, wider neck, and pickups. Amazing. Orgasmic!
