For those of you who have a better ear than I do:

Around 0:39, he starts hitting his E string and getting what is, to me, an amazing sound... Is his bass tuned to D? (sounds even lower than that) What effects do you think he is using?

very "Geddy Lee" sounding. I'm willing to bet he's using a Bass Pod (line 6) or some other bass amp emulator. Alot of the sound he is getting is also how hard he is slapping down with his fingers.

I think that it sounds big because the bass track is doubled. He seems to be playing with/over a prerecorded bass line.

He does have a loop but the chorus is all him. I haven't heard any ideas yet :) You think he has a "low B" effect, tuned to D? tuned to B?!

    agresive playing + thick strings
    is more about technique
  7. being a guy who used to play hartke, that's what happens when you play really aggresive, alot of meaty, solid sound.

pump the "tube" pre up, compressor, eq, use everything.

he sounds like he's doubling though.

could be a chorus pedal as well though, something...

he is using Hartke VXL Bass Attack direct box
  11. His tone is pretty wicked. Get a good Jazz bass to begin with anyways.

This guy has alot of good stuff. My favorite is probably Deluxe Deluxe or Six Strings of Fury.
