Hey, the top of my Iamp 800 is rattling. Really pissing me off! I can set something heavy on top of it, but that's pretty impractical.

Anyone have other ideas for stopping it? Feels like it's just unsupported in the center, but tough to say. It resonates to B/C on the bass which is rather inconvenient :) The rattle is quite ridiculously loud at high volumes.

  2. Did you try tightening all the screws you can see?

Yeah I pulled all the screws out and put them all back in, seems pretty tight, but there's no screw at all across the front of the top panel. It's kind of held in place by a tab on a little rivet looking thing. Couldn't actually get the entire top panel off due to that, but I got all the screws out.

Does the rattle go away if you place you amp on top of a piece of isolating foam (like a Gramma pad)?

When you play a B or C, can you see anything particular that's vibrating when you illumiate the chassis with a flashlight?

    Have you contacted EA?

I put my amp on isolating foam and it changed nothing except to slightly quiet a minor internal buzzing. There is a very, very quiet internal buzz to the amp resonating to F#, but it's quieter than a fan so I gave up worrying about it - doesn't show up recorded.

The B/C resonance is clearly the top panel. I put a wah pedal on top of it (with rubber feet) and it stopped entirely. Now my walls resonate, but there ain't nothing I can do about that yet ;) Bass traps are a while coming.

I guess I can always keep a wah pedal on top of the head but that seems...lame :)

Oh, I've discussed it with EA, and they gave some suggestions but would have to look at it to fix anything, which is 20 bucks each way and a 100.00 service fee :) Hurray for being out of warranty.

Perhaps EA can tell you how to easily remove the top so you can make the repair yourself.

There's a screw in the front panel that holds the top if I remember.

Yeah that appears to be a rivet and not a screw from what I can see. Doesn't seem to come out. I dropped an email to EA.

I've had gear in the past that I damped a panel with several layers of duct tape or hot-glued neoprene in internal areas that allowed.

And there's spray-ons at Part Express usually used for horn flares but could work here.

There is a lot of room in the case so that seems like a good idea. If i can get the top off that sounds like the way to go. Thanks!

Just a shoutout here, I heard from EA support and they are assisting :) It's pretty great that their support is as helpful as their amps are awesome.

And thanks again to everybody else for your comments. Seems like some kind of mass on the inside of the lid is going to be the answer.

    It's a screw that takes a hex/allen wrench.

I'm still working on it - my 16th allen key isn't working on the front, so going to see if I can't dig up another one to try. Failing that, EA's offered to take a look at it gratis so I might do that if I can scrounge up a backup amp sufficient for my upcoming gigs :) Neopak might hang, I dunno.

Also working on figuring out what kind of tape to use to deaden the top, don't want something that'll melt if it gets hot. Any ideas?
