Ibanez 506 terrible distortion

    I plugged in my bass and all I could get was terrible high pitched extreamly loud distortion, at first I thought it was my amp but I couldn't solve the problem with every variation and knob twist I could think of....still terrible noise, I have been reading and ibanez is kind of infamous for the electronics crapping out, do you think that its the electronics? the bass is only months old and I hope it hasen't crapped out already

    if anyone has any experience or tips to fix this that would be great

    Change your battery. ;)

    really you think thats it I thought that the sound just got low and quite when the battery dies, not whacky

    ps. would cold weather effect the batteries

    Cold weather might have some very small effect, but not as much of an effect as a more common problem like leaving your cord plugged into your active bass. Distortion is a very common result of a dying battery in a preamp.

    He hit the nail on the head. 95% of the time when a battery starts to die in an active bass a nasty distortion occurs. Replace your battery and you're all set :hyper:

    thanks man, I'll swap it out, I do unplug but its only my second battery change
