I have an opportunity to acquire one of these. All orig, except it has been refin'ed a to a teal/blue color. I suspect this because to the best of my knowledge they were only made in 3tsb, black, and white. The refin was done a long time ago, however, and it's not horrible.
In the end, the bass plays and sounds GREAT. Block inlays, binding, about 9 lbs or less.

I want to buy it, but I don't want to overpay. $300? $400? $500? And how much would a refin devalue the bass? And is there any chance that the color IS actually original?

    thanks guys

Never seen or heard of a teal colored Ibanez from that era. You're right in thinking it's a refin. Refinishing a collectable bass cuts the value in half. The Challenger isn't really that collectable, so it doesn't hurt the value that much. I'd say a refinished Challenger would be worth around $250-$300.
