I ran my favorite music store to take care of business, and specifically told my kids I would not play any basses today. Oh well, this new Ibanez made a liar out of me!:smug:

This bass, the EHB1000, is the base model. It has the soap bar pickups, four strings, and no fanned frets. The body is basswood. My guess is the bass is 7.5-8lbs. The construction is outstanding. It has a super sturdy three piece neck, and the headless tuning system is top notch. During the video, I detuned to D, and the string stayed tight as a compound bow (too bad I flubbed the line I tried to play!:banghead:) I do not know the preamp it has, but I was impressed. The variable mids were a real treat. I sure hope these basses are a hit. Ibanez really took their time, and really engineered these basses well. I know this bass is just under $1,100. The top of the line is just under $1,900. These basses are going to give Keisel and Dingwall some serious competition. Whenever, it is safe to really gig again, these light and compact basses are going to be wonderful for long shows and for being into tight spaces. I have some really nice basses already, but if I didn’t these would be some nice options.

I guess I will bump this since I thought it was such a well thought out bass.

Here is an owner with some substantive criticisms.

Is this the same bass that you posted about with that young lady playing a green one..? Or maybe it was a German....playing the bass, not a lady playing a German...anyways, I don’t really care for the tone (the thinner crappy tone they seemingly always start these Ibanez videos with where they try to emphasize the burps was and tightness of the rear pickup turns me off from them), but I thought that it might be a cool bass to have in church when you’re sitting in that right corner up against the drummer and you’re tired of having to keep the headstock from crashing into the cymbals.....

This is the base, non-fanned fret model. I had not posted this bass before. The tone did not sound thin to me at all, but no bass is for everybody.

No doubt, and I don’t mean to knock the bass really.....I’ve had some great Ibanez Basses for church gigs I used to have...I’m just in a really weird, slightly snobbish tonal place right now...please don’t mind me..!

Cool i haven't seen someone play or review the base base model yet. Thanks cheese!

I wish they did it in black tho. I dont care for the arctic white, but I have no need for a 5er.

If you a dedicated four string player, this bass will allow you to detune and still sound crystal clear.

I played one of the higher end models with the Nordstrand pickups at NAMM this year. I really like how it plays and feels. Definitely not “thin” at all. Quite the opposite actually but I hear a lot about QC issues especially over at the Ibanez headless thread.

Hopefully, they work out the kinks because this overall design and function is very impressive.

Been gassing pretty hard for the EBH1505MS in Pacific Blue Burst for some time now. I might press the button in a few months when I've paid off my zZounds account, or should I be able to sell my SRH505F that I've owned since late September, but not getting any bites on that sucker locally. >.< Not really too keen on trying to sell it via the interwebz and having to ship.

Good luck, shipping really eats into profits these days.

I have the 1505MS (tropical seafloor). I absolutely love it. Great tone, compact size, and unbelievably light.

And for what it's worth I think it's an exaggeration to say there have been "a lot" of qc issues. A handful of people post about problems and that gets blown out of proportion.

I haven't tried this personally, but other TB'ers are reporting a good experience ... check out this thread for much cheaper, fully insured, shipping options:

I bought an EHB1500, and sent it back. The neck is quite wide and VERY flat, like 19" radius. I'm not sure who this was designed for. The tuners are little stiff to turn as well. But overall I liked the bass. If not for the neck dimensions, I'd have kept it.

Thanks for the demo Dr C! I'm definitely going to try one out.

You know, between the blue mask & the blue shirt, the first thing I thought was "Sub Zero Wins!":D

My oldest daughter comments on me wearing blue so much. It’s a small world.

    Thanks for the feedback!

I almost got one of these but couldn't get over the headless situation. Ended up finally picking up a SR2405W.
