OK so I bought a SR1000 a few months back........I did change out the preamp but other than that I LOVE the thing......feel, barts, neck......its all good!

Ideally I'd like to find another one.......but i found a SRT800DX for a good price about 2hrs away......thinking about taking a ride to check this one out too. I realize it has EMG DCs in it and I've put those in basses before and liked them......I am also aware I'll likely need to change the preamp out as I didn't care for the stock Ibanez preamp that came in my 1000.

So other than what I already know above.....can anyone tell me if the neck profiles are the same on these 2? Was the SRT800 made in Korea? I believe the wood types are similar on the 2 of them but unable to find too many details on dimensions of the neck etc.

Are they made in North Korea or South Korea? I would buy nothing from North Korea.

I used to own an SRT805DX. Those were made in the Indonesia factory. Mine was extremely well made. No flaws whatsoever. Love the neck on those and the Spector like curved body. The pre amp is a Vari-Mid III and it has seperate Bass, Treble and sweepable Mids. All with boost and cut.

North Korea? Highly doubtful you'd see anything North Korean outside North Korea or possibly China. Especially from a Japanese company. Just sayin.

Cool thanks! I see people either love them or hate them it seems by what I've read so far. I'm wondering how the neck/feel stack up against this 1000 I have. I own a newer sr600 too which has a tiny neck and a super light ash body.....it has its place.....but its not anywhere near this SR1000 IMO.

Is yours pretty solid feeling? This 1000 is actually a bit on the heavy side and built much like basses I've owned in the $2K range.

  6. Yes, in the North Korean luthier work camps, they make some pretty awesome stuff.

Which is the best North Korean bass for the People's Glorious Ant-Imperialist Metal of the Great Leader?

My 805 was very solid. The 800/805's are neck thru Maple and Bubinga with wings that are Mahogany on the back and Flamed Maple on the top. The neck is not the skinny bolt on SR neck, the SRT's have more "meat" in them.

This is pretty much what I thought......I'm assuming the SRT will be similar to my SR1000 (1000 is also NT and has a slightly meater neck than my BO SR600). Thanks

Does someone know where World Plant is? My BTB 1206E is manufactured there.

  12. I thought all SR's had the same dimensions? Am I wrong on that?

New ones I'm sure they all have the same necks.....the older ones are different though.

North Korea? Have they heard about basses?

The bolt on ones are pretty much the same. The SRT or higher end neckthru's have a little thicker neck. At least all the ones I've ever played. Ibanez post's the specs online.

Yes I did find this info last night after digging through their archived brochures.

Here it is in case anyone ever wants to know in the future.

There is a nice used Ibby SR1000 at the Sam Ash in San Antonio. Nice player, nice weight. I think they are asking about $675 for it. Call them up. Ask for Vince or Phillip.

I went down to play this SRT800 Saturday and figured I would follow up and post on here about it. It is pretty much the same bass feel wise as the SR1000 I have.....the weight and neck both feel the same. Great bass! The nut was worn down and the A string buzzed......got them to drop $50 off the price and I got it home and put a new nut on it (had one that fit right on). Anyway only $349 for a bass that looks and plays fantastic I thought was a steal of a deal. Only scratch I can find on it is the one I put on it! DOH

I already swapped out the preamp for a 3 band EMG preamp I had. Opened it up tonally.....very modern tone (much like Spectors and Warwicks I've owned).....the SR1000 with the Barts and an ODB-3 I put in has a more heavily focused mid range. Both basses play and feel identical though.
