well, for one thing it means it's $3500...
really interesting - it looks like regular one. Why it costs so much?..
and serial say that it's 1980 year, not 1979
They can ask as much as they like. It doesn't mean anybody will pay that much though.
Different body woods and colour. And a "Limited Edition" inlay on the fretboard! And yes, July 1980 build.
Be interesting to see how long it lasts, or how long that price lasts. And shipping from Australia...
It's located in the UK, so that takes a couple of hundred off the price..... I would have been viewing it through eBay Australia.
In an attempt to "recapture" my 940DS, I recently missed out on a 924PW locally, and I am now re-disappointed.
Ah, then that would explain why they were quoting in pounds rather than dollaroos. (Can't explain everything else going completely over my head...)
Looking for an '82 or '83? If it was PW it would have to be '82 or later. I have an '82 940DS, always wanted an '80 or '81 940. Don't think I can justify any more expensive purchases, though.
This was an '82 924, as was my 940...
Where you going to defret the 924?
In my opinion, the changes they made to the '82 models from the previous years were quite significant, and as a result an '81 is very much a different bass than an '82. Just something to be aware of if looking to replace an "old friend" from your past.
Understood about the differences, and the reason for my interest in this one.
No plans to defret, just saw one for a decent price, but it went too fast...
'84 924 on eBay, with active pickups. I didn't think they used active pickups until around '86 and that the body was different by then?
Ibanez MC924-Black- | eBay
Pretty good price (US$330) — so far. But still a week to go for bidding...
It was around $200 when I saw it.
Wow, from $200 to $330 in only two bids?
Some of us don't mess around...
I'm happy to announce that I'm joining this club! Just got an MC940-DS from right here in the TB classifieds, and I'm into it... but I do have questions (see below.) First order of business, though... numbers!
009 Cat Davis
012 Michael Jewels
014 André Monc
015 Root 5
019 brett adams
022 Craig 4003

Now questions, based on these posts:
So, @Goad, how did the preamp replacement work out? In your post you were just saying that the tone knobs were louder and changed the volume… did you end up with a usable preamp that was similar to the original but without the hiss? I have definitely got the hiss, and I'm looking to get rid of it in what otherwise is a wonderful instrument. Mine might eventually get some work done - a board plane particularly - but I'd like to avoid having to do the whole electronics section if possible. Thanks for any advice!
Welcome. Nice looking bass. Is that an '80?
It's a '79!
OK. So late '79. One of the first with the 6 knobs and jack on the side. Very nice.
Yes, I was going to say late '79-early '80 based on the 2-screw truss rod cover alone.
Nice score. Probably a good thing (for me) that I don't check the classifieds much these days. That would have been hard to resist.
