Well, give it a try, it's the cheapest mod you can do (even cheaper than a set of strings) and the results will be quite rewarding. Since i did the mod i am actually using active mode quite often and would never go back to the original OP AMP.

less than 20 hours to go it shows it's up to $162.50 on my computer. I'd hate to bid again and glitch, but what's the most you guys would go for? Remember, Shipping is $90 so I might bid 210.00 to make it an even 300. Depends on how much explaining I'd have to do to my wife...

^ This. I love it and the total cost of roughly $30 was worth it!! Shipping cost the same as the chip, and I had a pro do the soldering which took an entire 10 minutes.

Wait a minute, how do you go from $300 to $162.50 and still be at two bids?

  6. I assume 3 bids and one was cancelled.

  7. $300 would be a bargain, although I have no experience with those pickups. Very curious for you to tell us about them though..... :)

    Is it yours, Goad?

Nope. Beat by $7.51 when I left work. Got the message I was outbid and by the time I looked again,... it was a done deal.
    Oh well,.....

winning bid was at the last second

  12. Maybe I shouldn't let the secret out, but that's how you win on eBay. Decide in advance the maximum you're willing to pay, then wait until the last few seconds to put your bid in.

May I get a number please? I love how this plays. I am convinced it may need to be re-wired. Does anyone have a wiring diagram?

  16. Very nice. I'm not sure we do have a wiring diagram for the MC824. It should be pretty simple though. A volume for each pickup, master tone and 3 way switch. What is yours doing? Unlike a Jazz Bass, I assume turning down either volume, when both pickups are on, will mute both pickups. I'm sure somebody can confirm that.

It is doing that. But the overall volume seems low. At least compared to my ‘81 RS924, which is a beast in passive mode. Very hot pickups.

Very nice indeed!!! You know what would look great on that? A gold bridge instead of that silver one! Let me know if you want to trade!!;)

    Seriously though, nice Bass!!!

I have a question on Musician pickup positions.
When looking at pictures it seems that the neck pickup on the '79 and '80 basses (MC824 and MC924) is closer to the neck than on the '81 models with the same super 4 pickups. Does anyone have information if this is correct and why it's moved more towards the bridge?
To me it seems at least the '79 and '80 position doesn't give many room to 'pop' while slapping.
