Ibanez or Conklin

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Ryan Berry, Dec 3, 2001.

  1. I wanna know which one i should get. An Ibanez BTB400 or a Conklin GT-4. Dont bother answering if u havent plaed both because im sick of hearing "ibanez sucks, i hate ibanez, they suck they suck they suck". They are both good i just cant decide.

don't own either, but ive played them both at a guitar center. I too prefered the ibanez. I have had two other ibanez basses, so i can speak for their overall build quality. very good for a bass in thie price range. Loved the resonance that the body had when played unplugged. a very strong bass IMO

I liked the Conklin Better..... but the body I could see could be very uncomfortable for some with the large upper horn it has.

  6. like comparing a Rolce Royce to a pinto :D

Conklin yes, but don't forget we're talking the Groove Tool line here...

  10. I've never played any Conklins, but, have heard good things about them. As for the Ibanez BTBs, I've played EVERY model, and like them all. The BTB4005 is excellent.

  11. Flip a coin... they are both good basses. I must say that I like the look of the Ibanez better than the 4 string Conklin.... to me, Conklin basses look like they should all have 7 strings...

I think my Conklin is nice...course i ripped out the pick ups and electronics and put in some bartolini stuff. hehe that might make a difference. I think the conklin is very comfortable, and nice looking. Oh how i love my bass.

I don't know if this helps but...I played a 506 for 2 years and have played a gt7 for 18 months and the Conk wins hands down! IMHO....

Yeah, but you're comparing a Soundgear against a Bart equipped monster. No contest! The GT-7 is almost worl class, pretty impressive for a Korean made 7 string. The BD-7 is world class IMHO.

BTB 400, great bass for the price, Conklin GT-4 is nice too, but the BTB has better access to the upper registers and more flexible electronics IMHO.

With a pickup and preamp transplant, both of those basses would be killer.

  16. if the Conklin has the Bartolinis in them which i'm sure most of them do, go with that.

you can't go wrong with either, though.

    get the Conklin!!!

Rafterman, the Conklin GT-4 and 5 do not have Barts, they have Mighty Mites, like most of the stuff made in the Core-Tek factory.

  18. :D oh :D
