Today I bought the body and neck of an Ibanez GAXB bass which is a medium scale one pickup bass that recalls Eighties basses like the Aria Cardinal and the Westone Thunder bass. It had a large chip on the bottom of the body and came without any parts. So I figured to patch it up with parts I had lying around. And it ended up looking like this... The bridge comes from a Guild Starfire bass, it has three different kinds of tuners, flaked brass pot knobs coming from a Westone bass, the pickup is an active Magnetics P-bass pickups and the electronics are from EMG. It sounds really good though, way better than any new GAXB I ever played.
How is the tone on that? Personally, I never really like the look of double cut basses and guitars. It reminds me of a midget SG.
As for how it sounds, it nails John Taylor's sound on "Some like it hot" or on "Union of the snake" that kind of powerful punch. I'll record a clip of it later (when my PC stops closing it self as soon as I try to open my Line6 gearbox to do so.)
