the line as a whole gets a rating from me of 5. the lower end ones really arent that great. when you get up into higher end soungears with bodies made of ash, maple, or mahogony, the quality is better. im not damiliar with the 590, but the lowest soundgear that I liked was an SR800A. for what i payed, i would give the bass a 7. it was a great little bass, but the thin neck couldnt handle larger gauge strings. played wonderfully, sounded pretty good, and aside from neck problems (use light gauge strings) was very durable. the higher end 1015 and up models are wonderful, pro quality instruments that never really caught on as far as aim aware.

still, 300 bucks isnt bad for a decent little bass.

    ask yourself:
do you like the way it plays, sounds?
does it appear to be well built?
    do you like the looks?
    does everything work correctly?

if yes, then 300 bucks isnt a bad price at all.
