    laplace, la
i got an ibanez sr-485, with the oil mahogany finish. is there any aftercare that i need to do to the body, like oil or wax it?
  2. If it's new not for awhile. If it's used and looking a little dull and dry, you can spruce it up with a touch of oil. Right now, I'm a fan of Teak Oil for an oil that penetrates denser wood. I get mine at Home Depot and it works great as a wipe on/wipe off type of finish.

    Hope this helps

Dont you need wax or something so that those places where you rest your fingers dont get light coloured or oily. I had the same bass before and i got oily spots and fadey wood colour where my thumb rests.

yea, i get oily spots and wear where my fingers rest
  5. Gentlemen, the bass has an OIL finish. That means that OIL is used on the surface of the wood to give it it's sheen and some protection to dirt. Oil from your skin doesn't hurt and can be wiped off or wiped into the body without any problem.
