I'm super intrigued with this bass. My first ever "quality" bass was an Ibanez Soundgear and I've always liked the design. However, aside from a very rare/odd "Ashula" bass that I had for a while, I've not had an SR for a long time. I like the feature set listed for this SR2500 (alder body, maple/rosewood neck). In particular, I love that it's got the sonic arch pickups that were installed on the Ashula.

Anybody here have one, or have played one? Any feedback would be appreciated . . .

  2. I just got a SR1400TE and really, really like it for what that's worth, but it's got Nordstrands and a different neck so it's little different

  3. How's the neck different on yours?

I'm pretty sure all the measurements are the same, but the SR1xxx basses have a 5 piece wenge/purpleheart neck, while the SR2000/2500 have a 3 piece maple neck.

  5. My concern is that the SR series seems to be a little light on heft both in terms of actual weight (a good thing) and in terms of tone (not a good thing).

Lately, I've come to realize that alder and maple is just my favorite wood combo for sound. So, this bass looks incredible to me as Ibanez rarely uses that wood combo, especially for basses, and on top of it, this has probably my favorite Jazz bass type of pickup (at least that I've ever played).

I just wish there was more available info online in terms of demos, sound clips and reviews from users . . .

  6. Mine's a wenge/bubinga neck(thruneck w/titanium rods),mahogany body w/flame maple top.It is very light but the Nordstrand big singles sound very good to me,everyone's got different preferences, others may not like the sound or look that's why we don't all play P-basses I guess

Zombie thread alert, but there isn’t on these basses.. has anyone got anything on the sr2500 or sr2505? Really liking these.. on paper, this looks to be my absolute fave Ibanez, and it might have moved the sr67x and sr110x down to 2nd and 3rd place...the unfortunate part is that it looks like these were Japanese market basses and slipped under my radar.. what do you folks have?

I always thought the Sr2505m was appealing, because the jazz style pickups are both moved slightly towards the neck. I would love to demo one. The CAP pickups have sounded great in the ATK that have them that I have tried.

Also I always wanted a SR 5 with a maple board

Definitely the SR2505 is one on the GAS list, especially the blue one. There's one on ebay now but in black

thanks for the replies! The CAP pickups have always been on my wishlist because of the arched shape, and you add a solid color, and I’m sold.. the 675 and the 1105 are about 95% of what I would want out of the Ibanez custom shop if that were available to me...the 2505 hits everything, and it totally flew under the radar because it wasn’t available in the US...I’m on a search for a black one with a rosewood board, for sure

That's pretty much my plan, but probably not for awhile. I'm down for you to do it first and report back!

  18. Spot model is a term used by Ibanez to describe an instrument model which is produced in quantities too small to be included in a catalog. If a spot model does well in the market it may sometimes show up in a future catalog.
