So I have an ATK805E that I love, but I'd love something with a somewhat more traditional sound, particularly a more P bass-like neck pickup.
I like the looks of both of these basses. Has anyone had experience with both? Which has a better B string? Which has a better P pickup?

I can only say that the 655 has a really nice B string and is a good playing, good sounding bass.

The TMB605 will feel more like your ATK. It has a larger body like your bass. It also has 18mm string spacing at the bridge like your 805. Tonally, both basses are similar except for slap tone. The 655 has a reversed split pickup, and it will sound more like a Jazz when slapped with both pickups on. The 605 has traditional PJ slap tone which is not as scooped as a Jazz Style bass.

As you can see, I really love my TMB605. I think all of these clips are passive. I just don't use my preamp that much.

Thanks Cheese! I had a suspicion you'd chime in. Were you just running both pickups in that Tower of Power tribute? That is the kind of fat, but rich in mids tone I try to get.

I was using both pickups, and I was probably passive. The preamp is nice, but those Nordstrands by themselves are golden.

I may go with the SR to get some variety, plus they seem a little easier to get your hands on than the TMB

Anyone else have any input on this?

Well, I never pulled the trigger on either but I’m in the market again. Any new opinions on these?
