Due to constant G.A.S... I need to find an economic way to do home recording. I mostly need to use it for scratch-pad stuff, and to translate concepts of tunes that I'm working on to bandmates... Nothing too pro.

I have a G3 iBook with 500 mHz and 192 of ram. I'm still using v9.2 for the OS.

Unfortunately there isn't a 1/8" jack for input (only output, headphone jack-like), so I was having to buy the Griffin iMic (USB)... which I haven't had a program to use it on, yet.

I d'loaded the free protools... man, that wasn't my bag, I need simple! I downloaded Audacity, totally crashes a bunch and was useless for me.

Anybody out there that knows of a good cheap way to do recording, with my little config?

    LMK,

ps, totally open to free stuff, but cnet.com doesn't seem to have a bunch of Macs...

Hey man, some other good places to check out to answer your question would be at:
www.osxaudio.com (even though you are running os 9, you can find some good stuff) - or- www.futureproducers.com

My opinion would be to pick up the new maudio mobile pre-usb unit. I think that it comes with something for audio editing, and its under $150 - good deal.

    Thank you for your reply,

when you mean 'pre-USB', you don't mean before USB... you were talking about Moble Pre-Amp for USB? Right?

I like running only 9.2... I have the hard drive partitioned for OSX and 9.2... but I like staying in 9.2.

You think that there is stuff out there for me.

Yeah man, the Maudio mobile preamp usb...you can find it for under $150, I think that is a great deal, and it should be compatable with your osx 9. Check it out at www.maudio.net I believe. Ebay it for around 130, or go to guitar center or musicians friend for about 150 even. That should be a good way to get started on recording for dirt cheap on your laptop. good luck.

Thanks alot, That is the info that I needed!

BTW, you know any sites that I could download a free Mp3 ripper for mac? I was trying to use the iTunes that came on the computer, but it isn't entirely reliable...And cnet.com doesn't have a great listing of os 9.2 friendly rippers....

I just want to convert from WAV and AIFF so I can put tunes up on my website.

Thanks again, in a gig or two I'll have something to record with.!!!

Hmmm...I dont know about that one. iTunes works very well for me in all of my ripping needs. Before when I was on pc, I used audiocatalyst . Im not sure if that is available for mac, and I know that audiograbber isnt. So do a little more research. It might be hard to find stuff for your os9 - and Im not too familiar with os9, because I run all in osx. Good luck
