Hey everyone, I've been playing bass in my church for about a year now and I've decided to make the transition from a 200$ squier to a real bass guitar. Anybody care to shoot out any ideas for good sounding and looking basses? I dont care if it is 4 or 5 strings, if it's 4 ill just convert it to B-E-A-D:) Thanks,

Do you have a Sam Ash, Guitar Center or any local guitar shops near you? You should play as many basses as you can till you find what feels right.

Personally, I'd buy a used Carvin.

A new/used Lakland. A Carvin SB. A used Musicman if you can find one. Depends on what sound you are looking for.

Go fender/lakland/significant other us precision. You'll never miss with this one.

Do you like your Squier but ust want something nicer?

If that's the case, look for a Fender version of what you have. Watch online sales (15% off seems to be standard) or contact [email protected] for a price quote.

If you are looking for something different, check out Ibanez. Thier 1405E and 1205E models are very cool and in your price range with a coupon.

You should be able to find an extremely nice new bass for under $1,000. Good luck on your quest!
