Ideas for totally new effects

Discussion in 'Effects [BG]' started by Joris, Dec 3, 2000.

  1. If you were to design a totally new effect, one that isn't even in TC electronics' G-force, Boss' VF-1, or Digitech's BP-8, what would it be? What would it sound like?

Synth sounds? Pitch following envelope filters? Slap sim? 9-string bass sim? Make your bass sound like a blues harp or a glockenspiel? Make your bass talk (You could call it the TalkBass)? Interactive phrase delay? Drum sounds? 64-voice pitch shifter? Or what?

Please let your unlimited imagination free!

  2. I think a phaser with the "woosh" controlled by an expression pedal would be pretty neat.

Call me sick.. but I actually had a dream about it a while back. In my dream, the guitarists from a local band that I'm friends with each had one and were showing them off. They looked like slime green Digitech Whammy pedals, only a little beefier. I think they sounded pretty damn cool too. :)

Hmm.. what else would be cool. Maybe a chorus/flange/phaser type of effect that used a ring modulated sound as the delayed sound.
  3. Upright bass simulator, fretless bass simulator. tuba simulator, 8 and 12 string simulator all with great sound. Smaller and lighter amps with good power.... and last but not least a canceling device for loud drummers.

drum sounds? ask Fieldy, I think he's got a pedal that does that. (sorry for the cheap shot)

what do I want? a polyphonic bass synthesizer pedal that allows you to save patches.

steamboat: I think the Dunlop Uni-Vibe does something like the phaser/expression pedal idea you described, although I think on it the phase speed is controlled by the expression pedal, rather than the sweep. am I making any sense here?

I think this is a good idea. Here's the improvements I would like to see, but this isn't my pedal so take them or leave them: put it together in one box. So what we could do is put a depth knob and have a wah/volume type pedal controlling rate. The expression pedal could also be turned off and it would go to a preset rate, and the pedal would have to be weight sensitive, that way you don't have to click it on with it in the toe position. And it would have to be that Phase 90 orange, or maybe a Tube Screamer seasick green. With a Phase 90 on/off button.

    There's my .02 cents.

How about a pedal that sends a massive electric shock to the guitar player whenever (s)he overplays or plays too loud?

If they ever make one of those, let me know. I'll buy two.:D

I would still like to see a practical application of the Declaimmifier. It would have an input from the monitor channel on the board as well as from the bass and using AI would discern what notes are inappropriate. It would then timealine or adjust the tonality, intonation and dynamics. Using quantum physics, you could begin to correct the notes before they are played. Of course it would project a hologram of your hands doing the right thing and the matching facial expression.

It would have two knobs: Talent and Suck. :)

With modeling, you could extend this concept to play like various artists; Victor, Jaco, Jack or whoever.

Until then I guess I will have to actually use my ears, taste and common sense. Man I better go practice!

I kinda like my guitar player. What I'd really like is a pedal that when pressed would punch my drummer in the neck. That would be of great help. :)

Hmmm. An effect that doesn't yet exist. How about a synth pedal that sounds good and tracks well? :)
  10. Here's one: Bass Overdrive/Fuzz/Distortion in a stompbox that doesn't sound like trash. :) All I want is something that could turn a clear, hifi sounding rig into a warm, growling, overdriven sound of an old tube amp breaking up at the push of a button. Jack Bruce's tone, Crossroads is a good example.. that's what I want to get. I want the best of both worlds available to me without multiple rigs.

Well.. I have yet to hear a Fulltone Bassdrive, though it is likely I may get to check one out over winter break. A good sound sample of it on the website would probably be all it takes to get me to send $200 of my money to Mike Fuller for one. Everything about it seems great, and other Fulltone stuff sounds great, but I've never heard this one pedal.

The Budda Phatbass is something I'd like to try too, but I've heard that it (the guitar version at least) has reliability issues because of how the tube is connected to the PCB.

my dream pedal would keep my drummer from switching time signatures in mid-song. the controls would be "level" "4/4" "3/4" and so forth. then there would be the added knob "overplay" which i would keep set at zero.

oh yeah, and decent bass wah, cause there are none yet. (at least none that i have tried)

something that would b really cool is to have effects tht stimulate sampling..
what i mean is sounds that are used on the dance floor..?
heheh, like if u switch it on it'll go:"yea, baby!"..
then u can lay the funk down and then add in cool sounds at the same time!

and what abt effects that make it sound as if different animals are playing bass!??

for eg, the elephant bass would have a throaty but boomy sound!
and how abt tyrannobass? for that carnivorous GRrrrowll...

then u can start having the beebass, where there'll b a buzzing effect when u play..cool eh?

    or maybe..seabass!

    oops, couldn't resist.. ;)

I'd make an effect that changes octaves, but in a kind of fast rise-and-fall pattern. I'd call it the....OctaSwitch? Or something like that.

therimen simulator, a roland ready synth for bass, pitch bend pedal, staccato pedal, voice simulator (using sample sounds, (instuments were made to simulate voices)), Musicman simulator, pre-cbs simulator.
  16. a good effect would be a bunch of already made effects put into one....

such as a BOSS metal zone and a BOSS digital delay pedal as one pedal

or a crybaby bass wah with digital delay

    stuff like that
  17. How about an automatic pitch shifting sampler/ synthesizer that would let you...record a short sample, add it to your bass signal with a provision for controlling wet/dry signal, tune the sample to your notes, have at least 4 note polyphony so you could do chords on a 4 string, and also have basic synth controls like...waveform,oscillation, etc.

With this you could record...say a duck quacking and then your bass would take on a Quacking vowel characteristic. Just an idea. Is it possible?

  18. Gee Wiz I got it.

A fart. We have heard of those effects boards with porno sounds and psychadelic tones and even machine guns. But i haven't come across one that makes genuine fart noises. And not just one type, one should be able to choose a entire variety.

....it seemed like a good idea in my head at the time..

Something that produced a tone so rumbling, grungy, and low that they you would have to pass out adult diapers to the crowd and give reverse-excorcisms to keep their souls from being rattled from their bodies!

Don't blame me, I just thought of it.
