Came across this browsing local classified. Looks nice. Price seems nice..... Is this US made. Judging by the headstock in the other pics, it looks to be. And the flame finish is really nice. http://www.kijiji.ca/v-guitar/kitch...ss/1042134553?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true
You should be asking yourself why they are selling it for less than half of what an MIA Jazz usually sells for. There is no free lunch, you don't get something for nothing.
I wonder if it's a parts bass personally, the logo doesn't match the wood. Looks like it's about 30km from you. Roadtrip time
Only 20 minutes drive, I would go take a look if I were you. The worst that can happen, is you come back with nothing and a little less gas in you tank.
Tuners and knobs alone indicate NOT made in America. Looks like MIJ to me, possibly with replacement decals, but not sure. Fender has done so many different things over the years. The flame is almost certainly a decal, commonly called photo flame. $300 still might be about right, just know what you are getting into.
It is the finish that is making me think that it is more than it probably is. I wasn't sure MIM came with finishes like that. I'm in no hurry to snatch up on this. I'll wait for a reply from the seller to see what they have.
Ok - looks like you might have something worth picking up there if it all checks out. I wish the pictures were better, but it's fairly clear what we are looking at now that I have done some research. Fender made MIJ photo (foto) flame basses in a vintage re-issue style sometime in the mid 90s until 8 don't know. These were basswood bodies w/ alder caps with a photo flame finish on top. MIJ accounts for the tuners and knobs, and vintage re-issue style accounts for the decal, which I initially questioned. In other words, best I can tell it looks like it checks out. On the back of the headstock look for a "foto flame" decal. Take a look at the eBay auction linked to see better pictures of the distinguishing characteristics. Also note the finish peeling, don't know if this is a common problem or not. Hope this helps.http://www.ebay.com/itm/1994-5-Fend...e-/181623853463?pt=Guitar&hash=item2a49a01197
+1 mij fotoflame .. saw that ad yesterday. I'd jump on it if I wasn't an hour and a half away. Looks like a good deal in my books.. Good luck!
I've had one of these and you could do a lot worse for $300. I traded mine Daion double neck bass, 4 string fretted and fretless. That was my first and last double neck for sure.
