    I recently bought a 1970's P-Bass copy.
It has a nice maple neck/maple fretboard. I believe its a maple body. Its pretty light. The pickup is a lipstick pickup. Its still got a P-bass pickguard style though. There are no markings whatsoever except "Made In Japan" on the neck plate.

Do you know any way to identify the brand of a bass like mine?

A photo would make it a whole lot easier for us to begin to try to identify the bass for you. From your description it's hard to say exactly what brand it is.

I suspect its one of the many that came out of the Matsumoku (my spelling is probably wrong) factory. Those basses are generally regarded as decent copies.
