Identifying tip ring and sleeve of stereo MEC output jack

  2. That's an output jack, not an input jack.

    Typically with that style of jack, the shortest terminal is the tip, the middle terminal is the ring, and the longest terminal is the sleeve. It's best to verify this with an Ohm meter, however.

    Oops! I meant output. Stayed up way too late last night...

    No Ohm meter. I was under the impression that this was a "solderless" install, so tools I am lacking atm.
     
  4. The long terminal is clearly the sleeve, so another option is plugging in a cable and touching the other two terminals to see which one buzzes through your amp. That will be the tip.

    OK complete noob here did you figure it out?

    Is it usually ground to sleeve, output to tip and battery to ring?

    If I have 3 wires one black ground wire from body one green ground wire from preamp (I think for the battery switching on and off?) and one orange output to Jack socket.
