Please forgive another IEM question...I've read through quite a threads looking for a good clear answer. I figured it would be easier to ask my question. Here is the situation: I play at my church. The guy who runs the sound is not a professional sound engineer by any stretch of the imagination. They finally decided to get rid of amplifiers all together, and so IEM is my only option. The band is vocals, acoustic guitar, electric, piano, drums and bass. The drummer is in a "cage", but it doesn't do a whole lot. I'm not trying to spend a ton of money, but don't want crap. Looking for something that will produce a good sound, but most importantly, will get rid of the live sound of the drums. I know I can't afford custom molds, so I'm asking for your help. What are good options for good isolation? I want to keep it under $400, and hopefully less than that. Also, we use Aviom units for mixing the monitor feed. Thanks for the help!
The avioms won't have any impact on your monitoring experience like the buds will. Since you'll not get much in the way of customs for $400 or less, you're stuck with universals. There's some darn good ones out there - as long as you can keep the seal. That's the conundrum with universal fit buds.. keeping the seal. If those work for your ears, then you have the choice of the "cheap but good" ZS6 and AS10's all the way up to the Westone UM30-Pro ($399). Whatever you choose, I highly recommend triple (or more) drivers, so you can boost the bass as much as you want without the mix turning to mush and distorting. By all reports, the Westone's are GREAT buds. That said, if you're a noob to iem's, start with the ZS6/AS10 Models (~$60) and see how you like them. Bassists should STAY AWAY from single driver models.
These are seriously incredible. I used to use 1964 Quad drivers, custom molded. They never sounded as good as these. https://sessionace.com/product/esa-v2/
I got these for drumming at Church, and am considering going direct with these for bass as well. The other drummer liked them enough, he bought some too. Very clean and clear sound. Same maker as the other budget buds in discussion. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L6DCCB5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
There are a few companies that do custom mold iems under the $400 price point alclair alien ears, cosmic ears, Bgvp, Eartech, fearless audio, and im sure im missing some my personal pick would be the Bgvp dm7 set they are about $350 and have 6 Knowles and Sonion drivers per ear very well tuned excellent instrument sepperation and clarity. I currently own two universal sets from them the $150 dmg and $200 dm6 sets and both sound excellent you may be able to find both those sets even cheaper now too .
Any idea as to how one gets pricing from BGVP? Nada on their website.. and they are Chinese so perhaps their prices have risen due to recent tariffs and USD exchange rates? Email I guess ?
contact Linsoul or Bgvp on their facebook page the base price on the dm7 is $300 but custom fit is an upcharge and they offer some upgraded faceplates finishes logos ect.too even with all the upgrades added should still be less then $400. Ill eventually be ordering a set I just need to catch up on bills abit I will report back when I order a set.
Thanks... it was mostly for reference purposes. I have 2 sets right now... 64 Audio’s A8’s and Qi’s a backup set. I doubt I’ll upgrade to the newer N8’s... too pricey for me, but whatever I do, it will be a multi-driver set of customs. I can’t use universals due to small ear canals. Thx again.
