I would start off with warwick as Porsche, Fender as Ford, Fender Japan as Nissan, Fodera as Bugatti, Spector euro as TVR. Any others?
Rickenbacker is Ferrari! Probably most people would not get the connection unless you are really into and understand both brands.
The "Fender = Ford" analogy has always clicked with me (except Fender was originally "any color as long as it's sunburst" instead of black lol). With their simple yet elegant designs, modular construction for easy assembly and maintenance, and reputations as "road warriors", both companies completely revolutionized their respective industries, and are still going strong while so many other companies which sought to improve upon their designs ended up falling by the wayside. Peavey-Volvo? Built like a tank, Excellent machine, will last forever, but everyone seems to be weird about being seen in one.
Really? A Leo Fender design as a foreign car? Nah. Tying into the Ford analogy from earlier I would guess that MM would be Mercury or Lincoln since they are so closely related.
I'll play: Gibson - Ford Fender - Chevy Music Man - Dodge Ibanez - Honda Schecter - Harley Ritter - Lamborghini Lakland - Cadillac Sadowsky - Shelby U-Bass - Smart Car and Wishbass - Geo Sorry couldn't resist
I would have gone with Fenders as like a classic Ford or Chevy. They've been around a long time, generally solid and reliable, easily repaired or maintained, and easy to hot rod, as aftermarket parts are plentiful.
While most good bass brands come from the US, the same unfortunately can't be said for cars methinks.
1965 Jazz bass, candy apple red, matching headstock = 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO I like the Sadowsky - Shelby brand association. But, we often fail to remember that Roger repeatedly says builds his instruments for working musicians. The Sadowsky could therefore be a LandRover Defender 110: all terrain, indestructible, all environments, plug and play. The thing about brand association is there is no wrong answer. Danelectro = Willys Jeep. Not expensive. Utilitarian. Bare bones. Funky charm. Fender Precision = Ford pickup
