    ......will that change the tone???????

I want to give my P and J a boost, but I'm concerned about tone alteration. I like my current sounds. Any experiences????? Thanks.
  2. That probably depends on the preamp ...
Have you tried raising your pickups closer to the strings ?
  3. Firstly, you could go with a stompbox preamp like the Aguilar, Sadowsky, or John East Stomp-01, or even a SansAmp BDDI. That approach can give you the benefits of a preamp without altering the bass.

Otherwise you are going to have to decide on things like your willingness to rout holes in the bass for the preamp and battery box, or go with a J-Retro where you don't do any routing, etc...

yeah ive thought of putting in a preamp too but ive wondered how it would affect the tone of the bass or even go well with passive pickups.
