if money wasn't an issue, would you get a more expensive bass?

In my case no: I'm perfectly happy with my wife (Squier)

I would get a couple vintage fenders and a vintage Hofner.

Yep... I would take one of these in a heartbeat.

  4. When I last went bass shopping, I had 4x more available to spend than I actually spent.
I needed that Wow! factor to purchase.

Since I saved a heap of money, I went ahead & got a better guitar as well.

    I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t.

I get a thrill from getting deals, then doing setups and, where needed, mods.

If money were no object I would have picked up a fretless to try out by now. Then replaced my first, the Squier P/J with a Precision.

I'd have G&L make me a custom bass, but that's about it.
  14. I'd hunt down a pre-CBS Jazz, a Jetglow Rick 4001 from 72 or so, and an original Stingray.

So basically, just older (and more expensive) versions of what I have, plus a 'Ray.
  15. If money wasn't an issue, I'd probably have a more expensive EVERYTHING!

Yes. There is a shop near me called Gelb Music. Their selection is second to none, with tons of high end basses. These aren't Guitar Center or Sam Ash basses. Just hold and play one and you'll agree that if you had the funds, you'd buy one as well.

    I don't really know. I like what I've got.
I play short scales, and the more expensive ones aren't readily available to try.
But I suppose if money really was no issue I might have one built,
just to see if it's any better than what I already have.

If money were no option, I'd be looking. I am not sure I would find something I like better. I choose by how it plays and sounds. I've had one bass for 32 years, the other 14. I don't think I would replace either.

  19. If I had unlimited funds, I'd probably buy a bunch of basses in the 1,200-2,000 dollar range.
I have no real interest in boutique, or vintage instruments.
I'd probably just buy more G&Ls

Absolutely!! I love my Fender P and J but I would love to have a Sadowsky, Lull, Lakland, Alleva, you get the drift..., Jazz bass but finances and my situation will not allow it.
