Just for fun, if you had unlimited funds (say you were in a high dollar band and blowing $50,000 on top dollar gear was no big deal to you), what basses and rigs would you be using (for playing out, for recording, etc.)?

I have no idea...at this point, I'd be happy with a great double bass and a rig for that, plus a 5 string music man stingray, maybe assorted Eden or Aguilar speakers, or maybe Epifone. Don't know which head. I'd try some Lakland 4 and 5 string basses (I wouldn't even touch one now because I'd have to give blood for decades just to make a down payment). I really have no idea...but I was wondering, for those who've been shopping for years and have their hearts set where their pocketbooks can't take them, what would you get?

    Thinking BIG...

I'd have all the luthiers I can think of propose specs and compete for my signature bass up to $20,000. The winner would be required to make at least 200 copies to sell as my signature produciton model.

Other than that, I'd get a club/bar where I could headline local bands. The bands could keep the door take. Of course I'd be playing every night.

In the back, I'd have a super recording studio, loaded with anything you can imagine.

The rest would go toward another BagEnd 115!!!

Well, with $50k to blow, I would go to the local BMW dealer, and after that I would drive my brand new BMW to the airport and fly to the States to have a chat with Mikey T.

Where's lottery ticket when you need one?

Unlimited funds? I'd collect vintage stuff.
  7. How about an Elrick Neck thru-neck 4 string, burled maple top, three piece maple neck, ebony fingerboard.
A Jerzy Drozd custom (similar to the prodigy L.E. but with 4 strings and a lightwave).
And a Carl Thompson Custom 4-string(you may have noticed i don't like multistringed instruments):
Neck: 24 frets, 36" scale, maple w/ rosewood fingerboard, cocabola side bindings, rosewood-bloodwood nut,
Body: Burled maple front and back w/ mahogany core, blood wood "cat's eyes"
Headstock: Zebrawood w/ mahogany and cocabola veneers
Pickups: EMG-40J neck, EMG 40CS bridge

Not that I'll ever afford any of this, oh well, I can dream can't I? With the rest of the cash... who knows? Maybe i could find an old 70's Rolls Royce, there's one in the papers for 14k. Now that would be rock 'n roll!

I'd probably get a couple of really custom Foderas (or Elricks if Fodera won't do wenge necks)

a 4 string fretted, PJ pickups, neck thru, 5 piece maple/wenge neck, ebony board, mandoyl frets, SIMS LED's, afzelia body with burl chestnut top

2 5 string fretteds, JJ pickups, neck thru wenge neck, wenge board, afzelia body with swirly bubinga top, SIMS LED's

and a 6 string fretless, JJ pickups with speed ramps, hybrid/set wenge neck w/ ebony board, swamp ash body with koa top, seperate switches for side dot LEDs and fret line LED's

pickups would be either SD basslines or EMG's or maybe Aero. preamp would be Pope, U-Retro, or Aguilar.

so after that - probably be about 25k once all is said and done - i'd finish out my amp rig:

    Goliath SR
    Big Bertha
    Carvin DCM 2000 poweramp
    raven labs MDB-1
with a big rack for it

then with the rest i'd get a nice small amp rig
    SWR Grand Prix
    Peavey DPC1400x

and then a vintage Jazz and Precision bass, and then save the rest for rent on a nicer apartment.
  9. I'd buy an Ibanez GSR 200 and a Peavey Microbass amp.

    '77 Stingray (like my teacher's)
A small army of Conklins (ala JT)

and a few more old Epiphones and G&L's, cuz I likes 'em.

Unlimited funds??? Get out of the music "buisiness", retire, lose as much money as I wanted playing poker till I die.:p

Oh....and, uh......One "top of the line" instument from every manufacturer (except Rogue where the phrase "Top of the line" is constantly met with hysterical laughter) just to satisfy my curiosity.

well, the Bag End ELF system is the first thing that comes to mind as unattainable -- anything from Orange amplification also seems out of reach --
an Aguilar DB680 was already mentioned, as was an XWire
and you mean I'd still have more money to spend ?

Well for one, the loose women would be tops (don't fret Brad, I'll save some for you) THEN, I would turn my house into the biggest Bag End Elf system fortified unit in the Northern Hemisphere!!! Sub-Hz for MILES!!! Add some poisonous pleasures of choice (and the women) I would have total obliviation of the senses & mind...also, adding whatever leftover $$$ for a Foder Emperor 2(6 st) + more autos & bikes(HD)...
