How do you safely connect a 4 ohm and an 8
Plug 'em both into the 2 ohm jacks. Did you get a manual? If not, you can download one on the mesa site. The rule with a 400+ is: look at your total load and then use the appropriate jacks. In other words, if you ran two 8's, you'd jack into the 4's, etc.
yup, stick them in the 2 ohm jacks. The 4 ohm will get more juice but if you had say, a 8 ohm 2x10 and a 4 ohm 2x15, maybe you'd want the higher-frequency cab to be quieter any way. Worked for me. Nice way to balance things out if you're running mono.
