Well gentlemen, My hunt for something to rock out with draws closer to end. Some of you said this bass would be the best for the job since the beginning, and I'm almost certain it will be my next bass. But which one. We have the original classic - which you still don't see much - and we have the slightly revamped later model, a proven classic but perhaps even too popular for someone who wants something bit more special? We are talking about '51 and '57 Precisions. Both are MIJ here. It's not only about the looks, so you might consider it tonewise too. So I let you to speak your mind. To help you, we have pics of the gorgeous contestants: What do you say then, the Daughter? Or, the Mother? Oh, and you might want to state what might be the reasons for your choice. I'm especially interested in what do '51s sound like.
Call me nuts, but for some reason, I'm seeing that Duck Dunn with black hardware (not literally). That would be nifty keen. Black ABM brige and some black Hipshot tuners. That'd make that finish sing. Well, to me, anyway.
Ponder, actually not so bad idea. That would work for the Mother even better, as the pickguard is black and the bridge needs to be changed anyways.
I dunno, was picturing the Daughter with black hardware and a black pickguard, and it just didn't look as right as black hardware and the same white pickguard. Dunno why. Still say get the Daughter, give'er some new shoes.
Get the daughter. If you get the mother and your friend plays it, he'll go around saying, "I was playing with your mother last night!"
For some reason, that I am really not conscious of, I would choose mother. Maybe, that Sting plays it, or just simply, that I like it more by its look? Who knows, but I vote for mother!
