Yeaup, my band always wear similar clothing. Or clothing with a theme. We had a song about a black sheep getting rejected by white sheeps but accepted by spotted cows, so I dressed in all white, guitarist dressed in all black, and drummer wore black and white. Pretty fun!

I think he meant would you wear your bands T-shirt.

I think it'd be fine if only one of you were, if the whole band was decked out in their out t-shirt that'd be kind weird.

Heck no! I think it looks real dorky for musicians to be wearing their own bands T-shirt. Leave it for the fans to do it.
And that goes for anytime, on or off the stage...when you think about it, no cool famous musicians wears theirs either.

I don't see a problem with wearing your own band's shirt.
Think about it--how do you show support for your favorite band? you wear/buy their tshirt. Honestly, my band is currently my favorite band, and I wear tshirts of bands that i like, so i see no problem with wearing my band's tshirt.
however i do not own one of my band's tshirts, as the guitar player is charging me 8 bucks for it--i'm waiting until it goes down to 5 ;)

I think it's weirder to see people at a concert wearing other band's shirts. How do you explain that? "this is a band that i like more than yours" ... "I like these guys, and they are similar" ... "this band isn't even in the same genre as yours, but i am wearing it because they are a band and so are you"

those don't even make sense to me. I'd rather see me and the crowd all wearing my band's shirt :)

although to have all the band wearing the same shirt is a tad weird too...thats why all band's should have at least 4 designs :)

+1 I often wear our band's shirt. I've done that in every band I've been in that had shirts. But just in case one of the other guys wears one too, I bring a spare non-band shirt.

-1 nothing dorky about it. What's wrong with a little advertising? If it helps folks to remember our name, that can only be good. I've seen famous musicians wear their own shirt - Eric Clapton comes to mind. Is he a dork? Saw a magazine cover of Iron Maiden in concert, Dave had a Maiden shirt on.
But hey, suit yourself! No law about shirts that I know of. The law only comes into play if you take your pants off! :D

Of course you like your band -- it's yours! :p But it's very immodest to wear your own shirts, as if you're so great that even you can't help but wear the name. It's much classier to support one of the other bands playing. You wearing your shirt means nothing and earns no points, but you wearing someone else's shirt does.

i dunno--I guess it all comes down to how you see people who wear band shirts...some see it as tributing a band, while i see it as advertising. Its like a billboard--you don't see a McDonald's billboard saying "hardees is good too!" plus if someone sees me wearing the shirt, someone else who likes the band might see it and want one too :)

I'd wear it if I liked our design, a shirt is a shirt, and if my band rules and the shirt fits well I'll probaly wear it until it rots off of me. I'm not going to change out of the t-shirt before a gig, I'm not going to change into the t-shirt before a gig, I don't do my hair nice, I don't do anything different. My band is my life, music is my life, and who I am on stage is who I am in life. It's what gives me fans.

I don't think Steve Harris looks to dorky. Ginger Baker looked fine as well on the Live at Albert Hall video. Get over it, a shirt is a shirt.

Besides, wearing one of your band's shirts onstage lets people know that you have shirts and could generate some merchandise sales. Unless you are too cool to make any money...

I think whatever you wear, if you wear it honestly, and with conviction, you can carry it off. It depends on the band, the audience, the venue, so many things. You gotta do what feels right. I always personally found interest in musicians wearing their favorite band's shirts, as it gives insight into their listening habits...what goes into their writing, where they "come" from.

I actually had a special one-off shirt made for the only band I was in that actually had some merch. Our logo was red and white on black, so I had one made that was all black, shadow style. So on stage in looked like my usual gigging "uniform" - a black T. But when you got up close, you could see that it was actually a shirt for the band.
