IK AmpliTube VSX free for a few days (it's not a scam)

I was notified on Instagram (for all the scam and crap that usally gets there as sponsored) about the VSX suite (the first, not VSX2) being given for $0 on audioplugin.deals

I checked and it's not a scam, I was given a proper auth. serial which unlocked the whole models without asking for card details. Be sure to untick the "promotional messages" thing in case. Ok, it does ask for name, email, phone and address like a proper transaction, but no card details and it effectively gives a serial that works as if you were doing a purchase. Your call.

Too bad I already had the SVT CL and 8x10 model, lol. I am quite digging the SVT IV PRO going through the 8x10, great clarity and detail, cuts through loads... it sounds a lot in the ballpark of JST's Rex Brown Bassforge plugin, which is not surprising once you dig for some info about Rex's gear in the past.
The pedal models are nice too, there's a nice octaver in the bundle.

Anyway, I still think that to get this kind of tones Rex Brown Bassforge's approach to the layout and signal chain does the job in less time - Amplitube can be quite convoluted by design.

Try these settings on the SVT IV PRO (through a P bass, in case) and see how they sound:

Ok, to be fair the second mic model is a ribbon one that I think is not included in the bundle, but the first is the Senn 421

P.S. When I bought the single CL model through IK's Custom Shop something like 5 years ago, I remember that the IK suite and models sported the official Ampeg logo in all graphics and names... I guess they changed/lost the agreement.

Audioplugin deals has some great sales - almost always that nobody else has.

IK Ampeg SVX is great, the original and best Modeling certified by Ampeg engineers themselves. They start with the schematic and verify it at every step.

If IK is allowing Audioplugin Deals to do this has me thinking they migh have something new in the works - that you'll want to upgrade to very soon! :)

I have to admit I sort of struggled to get a lively presence out of their CL model, which I found way easier to achieve with Rex Brown Bassforge - the IR loader is great for that too and there are great ones around... Anyway, I'm now digging this IV PRO model a lot, it does have a real, lively tone! Horses for courses, probably... not that I dislike their tube power amps, in fact I might even fancy them more... it's just about modeling and what goes to your speakers/headphones.

Well, I tried using similar settings back on the CL model and... guess what, it's way better than I remember, lol. I probably needed to go through this journey anyway.
But I guess that the clarity of the Senn 421 model (which I didn't have before) is quite instrumental for it, no wonders it's bundled in the SVX.

I think some newer plugins are a bit friendlier, meaning that Amplitube has a lot of levels along the signal path to take care of (well, like a real setting, sort of), so if you crank up the gain on the Classic, you'll find that the mics volume has to be tamed down loads, and so on... I think there are many variables, in fact.

How does the model compare with the real 4 Pro? Did you even do a sort of A/B with same cab/mic?

I'm thinking the same thing since this software has been the same for over 10 years with the exception of SVX 2 which is basically 3 other amp models Heritage B15 N, SVT VR, and V4-B. With the Axe Interface and the new Axe Solo out they might have something better than Amplitube 4 Deluxe in the making.

What I'm really intrigued to know is how the interactive mic positioning algorithm works against "true" fixed IR... There are some IR loaders which in fact let you blend different mics and placements, but they are pre-recorded wavs of said placements... I doubt Amplitube works in the same way for every millimetre of their mic positioning system. To be very honest, loading a well engineered IR of a 8x10 gives me livelier and more 3D tones to my ears... Bassforge lets you load them straight in, and imho that's a good feature.

Of the 2nd pack models, I demoed the SVT VR through the custom shop and I have to say that, compared to the SVT CL model, I recall it sounding better, punchier, more like when using my VT Bass... Still, I didn't think it justified the purchase just for it.

Oh yes, since I mentioned loading third-party IRs in my previous post, this also makes me think of a valid point: you can get different IRs of the same model made by different people with different mics... And, of course, different physical rigs of the same model

I have a SVT 7 Pro but i compare the settings the same as SVT 4. Have not A/B but i run the output of interface into my BA 210 or my SVT 7 Pro with 810E cab for monitor and sounds great and even better with the SVX with the additional toys that come with it like tube compressors and EQ.
