Or atleast, that's what some people at my work say :rollno::rollno:

Earlier this week, somebody at work asked me what I do when I'm at home (since I only work during the evening, they think I don't have any time for myself). So I answerd : ''Well, I play bass guitar, so most of my time is spend on playing the bass :)''.

And for some weird reason, someone else said : ''Dude, you are 22.. Did you lost your mind or something? That's for children!''

*me* ''Yeah right, how about all those ''children'' in bands like Metallica, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Iron Maiden, etc. etc.?''

His answer was : ''Well they must, cause they got famous with it and there is no better way for them to earn money..''

    I think I lost it.... :mad::eyebrow:

I've been 22 twice now and I play bass! :). Must be a two time loser.
They dont get it. You dont have to have plans of fame and success, just enjoy it. If you were my age, didnt work & living in your parants basement because you were holding out for your record deal... thats one thing but you enjoy it. Music doesnt discriminate, age, sex, race, etc. Many many examples of that. Hope you success. That'd quiet em. :D My son is takin bass lessons from me... he's 2&1/2. I will play until I cant hold my bass!

Yeah. I had to read that twice myself! Sounds like the kind of people who are content to rot in front of the TV all night.

I'm 60, I play at church once every three weeks and recently got a gig playing every Thursday!

    Some people. :rollno:

Did you ask them to describe their hobbies?

  10. So doing something that is actually constructive is for children?

I practice a lot but still suck.
I started playing at 40, and it is making me feel younger, enthusiastic and joyful like a child. I guess I don't want to grow up if it means becoming one of those dreary clay-like creatures who regret life. Give that guy a suckerpunch in the nuts for me.

    Repeat after Forrest Gump:

"Stupid is as stupid does, sir."

There are many stupid and thoughtless people in the world. You know some.

You find there are a lot of mean, bitter people in the work world, and for some of them they only way they try to make themselves feel better is by cutting other people down. Unless it was a superior or you boss, I'd give it right back to them.

If someone would've told me that 35 years ago I would have told them they were full of <deleted expletive>.

Today, I'd say they are misinformed(music increases intelligence and exercises the other side of your brain), say I don't want to grow up yet, and explain to them that while some folks watch TV or whatever they do with their ONLY TIME TO THEMSELVES in this life....I prefer to do something creative. That is music.

This sounds like a case of "I cant do it , I could never figure out how to do it , so I will Denigrate anyone who attempts to or does because If i cant no one else should"

I am lucky, where I work, They support me in musical endeavors, let me off early gig days, have lent me a 20 foot enclosed gear trailer and shop truck to ferry gear to out of town gigs and are usually first ones to comment good or bad on new material we have posted on soundcloud or reverb nation

Play away!!!!!!! Been playing for almost 2 years, didn't start til I was 43. Regret the years I wasted, would be so much farther along if I started when I was 22.
