I'veadored the bass for a long long time and have finally decided to get one. However, I'm not exactly rich, and I'm only starting out, and am getting a Laney RB-2 and either

    Squier Standard Jazz Bass

Is it really worth getting the standard? The body has been made out of agathis, and on the affinity its got an alder body.. Its a good £40 cheaper, and thats £40 to an MIA :p

So should I just get the affinity?

    Thanks in advance

Oh, and also, is their anyway I can get it with a maple fretboard that delivers to the UK? I don't really like the look of the rosewood ones.

As someone who has owned both an Affinity and a Standard P bass as well as an Affinity strat, I would advise you to spend the extra cash and get the Standard. One of the Affinities had a twisted neck and both had very crappy hardware: the tuners were trash and the nut would bind the strings. You could of course replace those things, but you'll likely spend more than the difference.
I got the Standard with the intention of swapping out the nut, tuners, and bridge, and found that I did not have to.

  3. +1. THere are soem decent affinity basses to be had, but its a lot less of a crap shoot with the standards. My affinity didn't have anywhere near the problems he is describing, so I can only surmise that they have gotten even worse.
