I'veadored the bass for a long long time and have finally decided to get one. However, I'm not exactly rich, and I'm only starting out, and am getting a Laney RB-2 and either Squier Affinity Jazz Bass http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/10779 Squier Standard Jazz Bass http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/squier-standard-jazz-bass/3825 Is it really worth getting the standard? The body has been made out of agathis, and on the affinity its got an alder body.. Its a good £40 cheaper, and thats £40 to an MIA So should I just get the affinity? Thanks in advance Oh, and also, is their anyway I can get it with a maple fretboard that delivers to the UK? I don't really like the look of the rosewood ones.
As someone who has owned both an Affinity and a Standard P bass as well as an Affinity strat, I would advise you to spend the extra cash and get the Standard. One of the Affinities had a twisted neck and both had very crappy hardware: the tuners were trash and the nut would bind the strings. You could of course replace those things, but you'll likely spend more than the difference. I got the Standard with the intention of swapping out the nut, tuners, and bridge, and found that I did not have to.
+1. THere are soem decent affinity basses to be had, but its a lot less of a crap shoot with the standards. My affinity didn't have anywhere near the problems he is describing, so I can only surmise that they have gotten even worse.
