    ...after all the whining I've done about a university band that I was having some issues with, I've re-enrolled myself with this band.

    Simple reason is that they're desperate for new musicians, as the majority have graduated, and in regards to bassists, a lot of them simply didn't like playing in the band.

    The plus is that there's a new bandleader, and some new material.

    I'm such an idiot...

    Playing in a university band is a great chance to develop your reading skills, so it's worthwhile even if it's not ideal in every possible way.

    Don't worry about it too much... We've all made mistakes with regards to our music... In the mean time, you're still playing, which means that you're still moving forward with your music skills. Unless it makes you totally unhappy, you can still gain skills, experience and other helpful things from playing with these people.

    odd, off topic thing... We all know that funding to colleges is being cut, right? I'm hearing *radio* ads (here in San Diego) for community colleges begging musicians to come and be part of their band programs - specifically bass players.

    What up wit dat???

    This is pretty much how I'm thinking of it: it's a chance for me to play and practice, and a chance to meet some other musicians.
