I'm doomed truss rod stripped

Discussion in 'Hardware, Setup & Repair [BG]' started by JustOpenYourMind, Dec 31, 2001.

  1. Ok I have a really big problem my truss rod is striped .
the allen wrench is now loose in it.
the rod won't turn either way.
it must be stripped because before I could adjust it with that same allen wrench but one day the wrench kind of jammed and I was forced to really pull hard on it and it must have stripped the rod.

Am i doomed or is there anything I can do?

Did you try a different allen wrench? Sometimes the wrench strips, and the nut is OK.
  3. You should be able to replace the nut on the end of the truss rod, but it will most likely take a pro to get it off.

I did the same thing to a cheap jazz bass. I ended up buying a replacement neck.

As bassbrad stated, the rod probably isn't stripped, just the nut at the end of it. The neck isn't shot. You can get a new nut put on it by a tech.

I would be more concerned about the fact that it "jammed." A truss nut should move fairly easily in either direction.

I recommend that you have the bass looked at.
