Just got my AI Focus, it appears the well has been replenished and again the Foci run over.

This is my first new amp since I bought a Clarus, in 2000 I think (the very first smaller run, not a Clarus 1). I just got it this AM and ran home at lunch to check it out.

It's similar to the Clarus tonally but tighter, deeper and brighter. I've heard a few people say that it wasn't much improved over the Clarus, but it's a big improvement IMO at least compared to MY older Clarus. The Focus sounds more muscular, kind of like my Clarus with a blood transfusion from a Thunderfunk.

I can't wait to crank it up with my Bergs and my LowEnd and give it a work out. I think the extra headroom will also make a big difference when running my upright through a single Berg 1x12. It's going to sound great.

I can't wait no more...my Focus is at the moment on an airplane, I hope to have it in my hands at the beginning of the new year (what a wonderful beginning...)
I've never tried AI products, but the feedback on the Focus is great, so I've bought blindfolded...
Hope your Focus will satisfy your needs...

Thanks for the note. I don't know your music or your ears, but I suspect you're going to like it. They make terrific stuff. I've used my Clarus for years: it's been very steadfast and always sounded great.
  4. Hi,
I just mine two days ago.The kids were asleep so I couldn't crank it up.New Years Eve is at a big casino room so I try it out there.
Question-Can I plug 2 4 ohm cabs into it or will that be a 2 ohm load? It has 2 speaker outputs, but I think I can only drive 1 4 ohm cabinet safely.Hate to blow it up so soon!

The cabinet in question are Schroeder's,a 1210 + 1212. I'm in hog heaven.Thinking about getting the power amp version of the Focus.Great gear, congrats on getting yours!

I'm certain it's a minimum 4 ohm load. 2 4-ohm cabs (the Schroeders) would probably be ill advised, as it would put you down to 2-ohms. I would think the 1212 alone would sound great. The power amp only version would probably be perfect for the 1210/1212 rig. You could probably play any venue in the world with that rig, and I'll bet it's under 100lbs. total!

  6. Welcome to the club, Wil;

I've been using the Focus now for 4 months at numerous gigs and rehearsals and I just love it. Yes, it only goes down to 4 ohm, but Rick is coming out with a slave amp of the approximate size of a cigar box, and with both amps together you can run easily two 4 ohm cabs :D :D :D

    Happy New Year everyone.
  7. Will,
thanks for your help.I'll only run one cab with the Focus.I have an Eden WT-1000 and Kern pre-amp rig that I'll keep for the big rooms until I can get one of those Focus power amps.

Jorge, thanks for the speakers, got them thru Brian, but you shipped them to me straight away.Got them in time for some big Christmas shows our band does.Ran the 1210+1212 with the Eden+Kern, with a gut stringed Kay string bass amped with a K+K rockabilly special and it was sweet! What a great sound.

Thanks again to Talkbass for the boards,

Anyone know anything else about this SLAVE? Price, specs etc?
  9. I am certain that Brian Barrett can shed some light into this subject. What I know is that the slave amp will have the identical wattage of the Focus with 600 Watts, can be attached/connected to the Focus and two 4 ohm cabs can be fired up. I've heard that the slave amp will be introduced at the Winter Namm, very exciting :hyper:
